[ The audience goes wild as Haly's Traveling Circus begins its three-ring opening act extravaganza. The performers swarm the floor in a choreographed riot of colors and music, and Dick just knows he's gonna get lost in the crowd.

When's Jack gonna give in and let him have his own aerial act? The accident was five years ago. He's ready. He's got a routine worked out and everything. All he needs is a chance.

Not that he's ever gonna get one as long as he's stuck doing boring old handsprings through boring old flaming hoops all the way over in the third ring. Total baby stuff. He could do this in his sleep. He catches two juggling clubs mid-double-backflip, spins once more in midair, sticks the landing, and the crowd goes nuts. Okay, that felt pretty cool, maybe it was more impressive than he'd —

[Well he's fourteen, so it's not that surprising that nobody's done this y-mmph okay, fair, that's fair. KF swears he can hear Dick's heartbeat -or maybe that's just his- and his fingers twist around the bedsheets as he kisses him back.]

Man, if I knew talking about traveling would get you this excited, I'd have brought you a couple of brochures.

I travel all the time, [ he laughs, winding his arms tight around KF. ] I don't always get visitors. I don't— ever get visitors.

[ He can't stop smiling, so bright and so wide his face aches. Is this what it's like to be in love? If the idea of KF texting him is enough to get him out of bed early these days... jeez, maybe he is. ]

Hey, hey, maybe you can see my solo act, if I can convince Jack to let me do it on that tour. If not, I'll put on a private show. If you wanna see?

[KF grins, wrapping his arms around Dick in return and squeezing. God, he's so cute.] Dude, yes I wanna see your solo act. Does it have a theme? Tell me about it.

[ WAIT. ]

It doesn't have a theme. Maybe that's what it's missing!

[ He beams. Like that'll solve the problem, if he just ties it together better, if he can be flashier, then Jack will let him up there by himself. ]

Well, not to be completely self-serving, but why don't you make your theme superheroes? They're all the rage.

Oh, by all means, be self-serving. Or, you know, I can be KF-serving. Happy to do it.

[ considering this, though... ]

You know what would be cool? If you made up a superhero persona. And then made your act like, a story about it. I mean, if you're gonna be up there all by yourself, you gotta keep the audience's attention, right? And you can't just keep doing death-defying leaps every two seconds. [please don't do that]

Well, I like the death defying leaps, but point taken.

—oh man, I could have a cape! And dramatic music! I could do a whole origin story thing, maybe!

The kids would love it. [KF wraps his arms around Dick's waist.] And I bet you'd look damn good as a superhero.

Aww, you're just saying that 'cause you don't want me transferring glitter to your face.
