[ The audience goes wild as Haly's Traveling Circus begins its three-ring opening act extravaganza. The performers swarm the floor in a choreographed riot of colors and music, and Dick just knows he's gonna get lost in the crowd.

When's Jack gonna give in and let him have his own aerial act? The accident was five years ago. He's ready. He's got a routine worked out and everything. All he needs is a chance.

Not that he's ever gonna get one as long as he's stuck doing boring old handsprings through boring old flaming hoops all the way over in the third ring. Total baby stuff. He could do this in his sleep. He catches two juggling clubs mid-double-backflip, spins once more in midair, sticks the landing, and the crowd goes nuts. Okay, that felt pretty cool, maybe it was more impressive than he'd —

... Or maybe the elephant's stealing the show. Aw, come on, Zitka... ]

[KF snorts, grinning down at Dick and stroking his hair back from his face.] When you were worried about leaving the door open because it was cold? Okay.

[ He tips his head back, kissing KF's palm. ]

Wow, you beat me to it. I was just about to break that line out. [KF's grin grows and he buries both hands in Dick's hair to scratch right behind his ears.]

[ Dick lets out a noise that could charitably be described as a delighted yelp, squirming in KF's lap. ]

Hah! It was a pretty bad line. Saved you.

Are you kidding me? The classics are classic for a reason! [well if he's gonna wiggle around like that then kf is just gonna try and find where he's ticklish]

It— h-hey! No! Cheater—!

[ Dick flails, cackling, trying to squirm away from KF and into a corner of his bed. ]

[KF chases him with a snicker, only to yelp when Dick turns the tables on him and pokes at his sides. He swats his hands away and it turns into an impromptu wrestling match that ends with him half on top of him, elbows on either sides of Dick's chest and him panting and grinning down at Dick.

Holy shit, he's really cute all red in the face like that. KF brushes a lock of hair out of Dick's eyes.]

Anyone tell you that you're really, really cute?

[ Dick laughs breathlessly, wiping a tear from the corner of his eyes. Too much laughing. He's dizzy. ]

... Probably not the way you mean it.

[ He leans up, kissing the tip of KF's nose. ]

Probably. [KF leans down to kiss him again, and he doesn't know if it lasts a minute or a decade. He pulls back and starts snickering, dropping his forehead onto Dick's shoulder, shaking a little.] Unless it was that damn poster, he probably meant it in the same way, [KF laughs into Dick's cheek and neck.]

Can I tell you a secret?

[ He lowers his voice conspiratorially, sliding an arm around KF's back, fingers tapping along with his heartbeat. ]

Between the two of you, I think you're the handsome one.

I know, it's the freckles. [KF rolls over to stretch out next to Dick, a hand tucked behind his head as he stares up at the ceiling.]

...what's it like? Moving around all the time. Does it ever get lonely?

Not really.

[ Dick stretches out next to him, lying on his side, watching KF like he never wants to look at anything else. ]

I mean, everyone I know is right here. It's like— family, kind of.

Yeah, but there's not a whole lot of people our age around here. [KF looks over at him and catches him staring. The corner of his mouth quirks up.] It's not weird for you?

Compared to what?

[ Dick grins right back, his fingers sifting through KF's hair. ]

Isn't it weird sleeping in the same place every night? Sitting in class all day? You've never even met an elephant.

Okay, okay, fair. I follow you. [KF sighs, wriggling an arm underneath Dick so he can curl it around his shoulders and pull him closer.]

...once you leave the states, I can't visit you though. I'm not allowed to pass foreign borders unless I'm on official League business.

Whaaat? That's not fair.

[ Dick pouts, resting his chin on KF's chest. ]

Even Canada?

They won't really care, but the League will and that's kind of the problem. [He sighs.] Until I'm officially offered membership, I can't go wherever I want whenever I want.

But we're going to Europe soon.

[ Dick lifts his head. He looks crushed. He hadn't realized just how much KF had started to mean to him until he had to contemplate the idea of not seeing him for months.

... What if KF doesn't want to wait that long? He's sixteen. He's a superhero. He must rescue people who think he's the bees' knees almost every day. ]

I know dude, trust me. [KF hugs him around the neck, pressing his lips against Dick's forehead in a not-quite kiss.] We can talk on the phone and stuff, text or whatever. Maybe I can get my passport and fly over, if I can come see you. Winter vacation'll be coming up soon, so maybe I can get permission to go over and spend a week with you.

Really? Dude— [ His eyes go wide, and he doesn't smile just yet, because he can't believe it. ] You'd do that? For me? You'd fly all the way there?

What the heck do you mean, for you? You think I can go that long without seeing you? Dude- [KF shoves himself up, peering down at Dick in bewilderment.] I'm not dating you as a favor. I like you. However you feel about me, that's mutual.

[ Which means Dick just kind of flops back onto the bed. Whump. ]

I-I don't mean— I know I'm a catch! [ right? sure. ] But we haven't been going out that long. And that's a really long flight. And it's normal to be surprised when someone wants to go to Europe for you, isn't it? [ no, isn't it? he doesn't know. ]

[KF shrugs.] When I said "fly," I really just meant "get over there somehow." Plus, I mean, I travel a lot. World's not so intimidatingly big when you can break the sound barrier.

[ UGH KF STOP DOWNPLAYING IT no one's ever done anything like this for him before. Dick grabs him and pulls him down into another kiss, and he thinks his heart might beat right out of his chest. Mmph. ]

[Well he's fourteen, so it's not that surprising that nobody's done this y-mmph okay, fair, that's fair. KF swears he can hear Dick's heartbeat -or maybe that's just his- and his fingers twist around the bedsheets as he kisses him back.]

Man, if I knew talking about traveling would get you this excited, I'd have brought you a couple of brochures.
